Saturday night my wonderful wife handed me my Father's Day present a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label Scotch! I recently tried to get a glass of the Blue at the Skirvin Hotel Bar here in the city, but it was $50 a glass. However, I can now say that I have tasted and savored the sweet goodness. Man is it smooth. I am not a fan of Scotch with a heavy peat taste (ex. Glenlivit). For me the peat over powers the drink. So I was pleased that this while somewhat peaty went down quite nice. In fact afterward I had a glass of Glenfiddich (12 years) and although I have generally that of it as smooth now in comparison it went down considerably different. It had a harsher bite to it.
I know JWB is a blend, and some people reject it purely on that basis and that is just fine by me. It leaves more blue out there for those of us who are not snobs. I like single malts too, and hope to collect nicer bottles of it in the future as well! But for now on special occasions I will be sitting down with a nice glass of JWB and sipping it slowly looking for every 60 year malt mixed into the blend.
Thanks Tina, Grace and Emma! I love you girls! I look forward to savoring some scotch with girls in the future!
