Happy Father's Day - Means a Nice Bottle of Scotch!

Saturday night my wonderful wife handed me my Father's Day present a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label Scotch! I recently tried to get a glass of the Blue at the Skirvin Hotel Bar here in the city, but it was $50 a glass. However, I can now say that I have tasted and savored the sweet goodness. Man is it smooth. I am not a fan of Scotch with a heavy peat taste (ex. Glenlivit). For me the peat over powers the drink. So I was pleased that this while somewhat peaty went down quite nice. In fact afterward I had a glass of Glenfiddich (12 years) and although I have generally that of it as smooth now in comparison it went down considerably different. It had a harsher bite to it.

I know JWB is a blend, and some people reject it purely on that basis and that is just fine by me. It leaves more blue out there for those of us who are not snobs. I like single malts too, and hope to collect nicer bottles of it in the future as well! But for now on special occasions I will be sitting down with a nice glass of JWB and sipping it slowly looking for every 60 year malt mixed into the blend.

Thanks Tina, Grace and Emma! I love you girls! I look forward to savoring some scotch with girls in the future!

30minuteworship.com

We passed this church on our way to San Antonio for vacation. Seriously this is the name of the church. Not "Crossings Community" featuring 30 minute worship, but just 30minuteworship.com. I can't decide which is worse the people behind it, or the people who see that and think, "that is where I want to go to church!"?

In and Out Burger - makes sense. Fast food - catchy name - gets the point across. For fast food not worshiping God! In the under appreciated Mike Judge movie Idiocracy he points out the absurdity in names by showing that over time the restaurant "Fuddruckers" becomes "Butt Fuckers". I knew Mike Judge was genius! Imagine what he could do critiquing the church and not just pop culture!

New Music - Adele

I read about Adele in Esquire (best mag subscription I have well worth the $8 a year) last month (here is the article). She is amazing. Check out her myspace page. You can here some of her songs there, or check out the Video below. Though that song doesn't do her justice. She has one of the best voices I have ever heard. Not a perfect voice. She has a voice with character well beyond her years.

Honest Tea!

(I posted this on xjvfitblog, but wanted to share it here too!) A few weeks back I ran across a suggestion in Men's Health to try Honest Tea brand green tea. I'm sure you have heard by now that drinking green tea is good for you (antioxidants are good). I highly recommend it. We drink a lot of green tea around here. I usually have a cup in the morning, afternoon and after dinner. This comes in a large enough container that it will last a few days and can go in the frige to be served cold over ice (as we Okies are so fond of). Very good taste. It is strong, much stronger than picture suggests.

We generally brew our own by the cup, which can become tedious sometimes. This is a welcome change. The price is good, but the shipping sucks. We are looking into local options. BTW it is fair trade and organic. I also ordered some of the black tea. I will let you know how it turns out. Although the green is strong and good enough that it will easily replace our regular tea.

Recovering From Fundamentalism!

My heart just skipped a beat. Somebody came to my site yesterday via a google search for "recovering from fundamentalism" (thank you mybloglog!) ! I only wish I had better content for them when they got here. I sat on my back porch Monday night worried that God was going to punish me at any moment for not going to Church or trusting/questioning Him. I worried that maybe he would take away my job or kill one of my kids. Seriously that is what I was thinking about. That is completely f'd up.

GodTube Raises 30 Million?

This is an interesting story. Man I would love to find out where that money came from! It is either a shady "christian" group, or somebody who has figured out that if you put Jesus in the name evangelicals can't wait to get out their credit cards (i.e. Mardell's). To quote a friend of mine, "I'm a Christian charge me triple!"

Jesus 2.0 Baby! (there has to be a joke about the second coming in there somewhere)

Gas Tax Holiday

Check this post out a Freakonomics. Last week the question was posed, "Is there a credible economist who thinks the gas tax holiday makes sense?" Guess what there is none. Check this quote out from Hilary:
George Stephanopoulos posed my challenge directly to Senator Clinton (video here), asking: “Can you name one economist — a credible economist — who supports the suspension?”

After Clinton side-stepped the question, he pushed on: “But can you name an economist who thinks this makes sense.” Clinton’s response: “Well I’ll tell you what, I’m not going to put my lot in with economists.” (HT: Mark Thoma)

That future looks bright for America. Maybe ol'Bush wasn't so bad! I can't believe I just typed that sentence.
